PCCI cites short-, long-term solutions to address congestion at Manila port

The country’s largest business organization, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), has prescribed short- and long-term solutions to address the congestion at the Port of Manila which, the group said, is hurting the local business sector.


In PCCI’s policy paper issued on Thursday, both public and private sectors can implement short-term measures “to relieve the pressures caused by the daytime truck ban in the city of Manila.”

The long-term solutions, however, are more significant since they will not only address the Manila port congestion, but can also promote growth in other areas.

PCCI cited only two long-term solutions which are shifting container traffic to Batangas and Subic Port, as well as placing a cap on the volume that may be handled by the Manila port.
